How to Prepare for the Next Hurricane

Places to stay and resources available during hurricanes

Hurricane season is upon us.  This year we are slated to have more hurricanes than usual.  However, with covid running rampant, this year's preparation will be different.

Central Florida is fairly safe from the strong winds on the coast.  For most hurricanes, Osceola County residents can stay in their homes.  For a list of suggested items to have on hand click here. Sometimes the power goes out during a hurricane and citizens don't have access to the medical supplies they need.  Contact the Osceola Health Department.  They will supply citizens with whatever they need during periods of limited access.

Some structures are not safe during hurricanes.  Citizens can go to a hurricane shelter this link provides a phone number to find the closest shelter.  However, this is probably not a good idea with all the covid variants and breakthrough cases.

If your family decides to leave, it is probably a good idea to drive.  Make sure the roads are with a live WFTV map.  Make sure the hotels along the way are available.
