Medieval Times asked me to be completely honest in my opinion- good or bad, so I decided to really put it to the test. I called in some back-up and brought my almost 15 year-old niece along, because who is more critical than a teenager? I also brought my husband, 2, 3 and 5 year olds. Everyone had an opinion but I will get to that in a moment.
I won't spoil the show for you- it can't be spoiled. I will, however, preserve some of the drama that you will enjoy while dining amongst nobility. Arrive about an hour early to view The Village- a history lover's dream! Make sure you listen well to the characters who are in full medieval dress and will discuss the artifacts available for your viewing pleasure. Also, pose for a picture amidst the backdrop of life in the medieval era.
Allow adequate time to meander back to the castle before the show begins and you will receive your crowns, pose for pictures with the king and be able to enjoy adult beverages for but a few shillings. You will be seated by your server who will instantly make you feel like a welcomed guest of the king.
I could go on and on about what a fantastic server Chris was- he was quick, friendly, professional and called my husband "m' lord". Or I could talk all night about the delicious food- your fingers will be messy but you won't leave hungry. I could even tell all the details of the adventurous show- sword fights, jousting and an enrapturing storyline. But what solidified all the memories for our family was what happened just after the show. Straggling behind a bit I looked toward the exit of the theater and notice people sword fighting with their flags at the encouragement of the servers. Laughing to myself about how cute that is I then realize it is MY family! Those sword fights continued into the parking lot and all through the night. The flags are now a reminder of the delightful show and memories we made as a family.
Not all families came out sword fighting but I didn't see a single person leave without at least a grin on their face. Even my critical 15 year-old niece enjoyed the show. She confessed afterward, "I thought it was going to be boring but it was actually a lot of fun!" Several times my husband told me what a great time he had and my little ones told me it was a fun and they want to go again.
